Themed issue policy

The Baltic Region journal publishes themed issues on the most relevant research topics aligning with the journal’s focus. Themed issues are compiled with the involvement of guest editors specialising in the field. All manuscripts submitted for consideration in such an issue undergo the standard peer-review process and comply with both the journal’s editorial policy and ethics guidelines.

The editor-in-chief and the editorial board of the journal oversee the appointment of guest editors and the selection of manuscripts for themed issues, to ensure the exceptional quality of the published materials.

All submitted works, including those intended for publication in themed issues, undergo double-blind peer review involving at least two authoritative external experts.

Thematic Issue: "Demographic and Migration Processes in the Labor Market"

Dear colleagues, 

We are pleased to announce the start of the submission period for the thematic issue of the Baltic Region journal titled “Demographic and Migration Processes in the Labor Market” (No. 3/2026). 

We invite research papers focusing on the development of the Baltic region countries. 

This issue aims to cover the following aspects of the topic: 

1.      Natural Population Movement: Dynamics and Factors 

2.      Demographic and Migration Policy: Regional Specifics 

3.      Demographics of the Baltic Region Countries 

4.      New Approaches and Methods for Data Collection, Analysis, and Processing to Assess and Forecast Labor Market Conditions 

5.      Historical Demography (Resettlement Aspect) 

6.      Geodemographic Security in the Context of Various Factors: demographic, economic, ekistic, social, environmental, logistical, domestic and foreign policy, administrative, regulatory-legal, information-technological, and others.

Russian Baltic region in a changing world: factors and trends in spatial development

Submission deadline: 01 August 2023

The themed issue will focus on the following problems:

- the positioning of Russia in the Baltic region in the face of new geopolitical and geoeconomic processes;

- the economic situation in Russia’s North-West, evaluated as such and compared to Russia’s other border and coastal territories;

- the international ties of Russian Baltic regions’: transformations and socioeconomic consequences;

- trends in municipal development; their geopolitical and geoeconomic determinants.
